Rodrygo netted two goals, leading Real Madrid to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao at home on Sunday.

This win solidified Madrid’s top spot in the LaLiga table with 75 points from 30 matches, giving them an eight-point advantage over FC Barcelona, who are in second place.

Madrid have maintained an unbeaten streak in their last 24 LaLiga matches (W18 D6), marking their best single-season unbeaten run since the 1996/97 season under Fabio Capello (G24 W16 D8).

In the meantime, Jude Bellingham became the first player in LaLiga this season to achieve double digits in both goals (20) and assists (10) across all competitions.

The outcome of the match dealt a blow to Bilbao’s hopes of securing a spot in next season’s Champions League, as they are just one point ahead of Atletico Madrid, who will play against Villarreal on Monday.

Rodrygo put Madrid in the lead eight minutes into the game by curling the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box.

In the 73rd minute, Rodrygo found the back of the net again after receiving a pass from Bellingham on a counter-attack from the left wing.

Bellingham returned from a two-match suspension to fill in for Vinicius Jr, who was suspended for this match after accumulating five yellow cards.

During stoppage time, Eder Militao made his first appearance for Madrid since August, following an ACL injury. He received a warm reception from the home crowd.

“We are talking about one of the best defenders in the world and he is important for us,” said Real manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“He needs time to adapt and get back to playing. We’ll need him in this final stretch of the season.”

Real’s next match is a Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City on April 9.

“We know them very well, but we’re going to focus on our game. We need to bring more intensity than we did today, but we still have time,” Ancelotti added.
