Rohit Sharma joins Ms Dhoni in elites list of IPL
As the Mumbai Indians (MI) square off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rohit Sharma enters an elite group by becoming the second player after MS Dhoni to participate in 250 matches in the tournament.
In his 249 matches so far, Rohit has accumulated 6,472 runs at an average of 30.10. He began his IPL journey with the Deccan Chargers and moved to MI in 2011.
Dhoni has played in 256 matches to date. In a recent match this season against MI, Dhoni became the first player to participate in 250 matches for a single IPL team. In addition to CSK, he has also played for Rising Pune Supergiant.
Another IPL player on the verge of joining this esteemed group is Dinesh Karthik, who has played 249 matches. Currently, he is performing exceptionally well for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Apart from RCB, he has represented Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Not far behind is RCB’s Virat Kohli, who has played 244 IPL matches, amassing 7,624 runs at an average of 38.12. He has been with the Challengers since 2008. Upon reaching his 250th match, likely this season, he will also become the second player after Dhoni to achieve this milestone for a single franchise.
Ravindra Jadeja is also close behind, having played in 232 IPL matches to date.
It’s worth noting that Rohit is playing as a player this season for Mumbai with Hardik Pandya as the captain. They have lost four games and won two so far. They are currently ranked 9th in the points table.
In the meantime, Punjab Kings have won the toss and have chosen to bowl first.
