Shahid Afridi
Shahid Afridi, the former skipper of the Pakistan cricket team, has voiced his astonishment at the omission of two all-rounders from the T20I squad for the forthcoming series against Ireland and England.
The Pakistan squad is presently in Ireland for a trio of matches and will subsequently journey to England for four encounters.
Addressing the media in Karachi, Afridi found it perplexing that Mohammad Wasim Jr., who had been a part of the team for an extended period, was now left out. He also pointed out the non-inclusion of Aamer Jamal in the team.
“It’s surprising how after keeping Wasim Jr in the team, he was dropped,” Afridi remarked.
“After Abdul Razzaq, we saw a good all-rounder in Aamer Jamal, it’s surprising he wasn’t retained,” he added.
Afridi also shared his aspiration for Babar Azam to emerge as a top-tier captain.
“A good captain takes important decisions in difficult times. We want Babar to become a great captain as much as he is a great player. All these players have been playing for a long time, their job now is to do well in the World Cup, he concluded.
It’s noteworthy that Pakistan is slated to play their inaugural T20I against Ireland on Friday. The subsequent two matches will occur on Sunday and Tuesday, prior to the team’s departure for a quartet of T20Is against England.
