With less than a month to go, drop-in pitches made their way to New York’s newly made stadium Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, that will host it’s opening match between Sri Lanka and South Africa on June 3.

A major milestone was achieved as a total of 10 pitches arrived in the New York, where the event is set to begin next month.

The work on the installation of the pitches, prepared in Florida by Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions, is already underway.

Out of ten, four pitches will be placed in the middle of the stadium under the careful watch of Damian Hough, head of the Adelaide Oval, while the remaining will be prepared in the surrounding practice areas.

20 big trucks were used to move the pitches from Florida to New York. Hough mentioned that the delivery went smoothly without any major issues. He also said that everything is ready for the eight games that will take place in a stadium with 34,000 seats located in Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, which is to the east of Manhattan.

“We couldn’t be happier,” Hough said.

“Everything is going to plan, they (the pitches) are in real good condition and all of our benchmarks and measures that we take along the way are exceeding expectations.”

The ICC’s mega event will begin from June 2 with the match between the host, the United States of America (USA), and Canada on June 2 at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Dallas.

A total of 20 teams will be playing for the glory next month and nine out of them will play in New York.

It is pertinent to mention that this Nassau Stadium will also host the most anticipated match if the year between arch-rivals Pakistan and India on June 9.

Other than arch-rivals, hosts USA, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Bangladesh will feature on the same venue. Hough is expecting it to be an even and tough competition between bat and ball.

“We hope we have got a good T20 pitch, that has good pace, good bounce and (provides) value for shots,” Hough said.

“You want the batters to be able to play shots all over the ground so that is our design and at the start our ambition was to produce pitches along those lines.”
