In the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 final at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham, the India Champions triumphed over the Pakistan Champions by securing a five-wicket victory on Saturday.
The Indian team successfully pursued the target of 157 runs in the dramatic last over, clinching the inaugural tournament.
The Indian openers, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayadu, gave a fiery kickoff to the innings, attacking from the get-go.
The Pakistani team made a comeback with quick dismissals of Uthappa for 10 and Suresh Raina for 4.
However, Rayadu and Gurkeerat Singh’s partnership of 60 runs steadied the Indian innings. Rayadu’s swift 50 off 30 balls included five boundaries and two sixes, while Gurkeerat contributed a steady 34 from 33 deliveries.
Yusuf Pathan played a pivotal role, blasting 30 runs off just 16 balls, edging India closer to the target.
Captain Yuvraj Singh remained steady, scoring an unbeaten 15 from 22 balls, while Irfan Pathan struck the decisive winning shot against Sohail Tanvir.
Aamer Yamin stood out as Pakistan’s top bowler, ending with figures of 2/29.
Earlier, after electing to bat, Pakistan concluded their innings at 156/6.
India made an early breakthrough, dismissing Sharjeel Khan for 12 in the second over. Sohaib Maqsood attempted to escalate the scoring with 21 runs, but was bowled by Vinay Kumar, adding pressure on Pakistan.
Kamran Akmal and Younis Khan failed to make significant contributions, scoring 9-24 and 7, respectively.
Shoaib Malik held his ground, scoring 41 off 36 balls, despite the pitch’s slow nature.
Misbah-ul-Haq added 18 runs before being retired out, and Sohail Tanvir’s quick 19 not out helped push Pakistan past 150.
Anureet Singh shone with the ball for India, claiming three wickets.
