ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Gaddafi Stadium to feature ‘Running Man’ statue
LAHORE: Gaddafi Stadium, a prominent cricket venue, is undergoing significant renovations as it gears up to host the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan.
As part of the ongoing refurbishment, a giant ‘running man’ statue is being constructed at the entrance to the stadium, located outside the Nishtar Park Sports Complex in Lahore. Standing at an impressive 25 feet and weighing around two tonnes, the statue is being built under the special directives of the Government of Punjab.
Once completed, the ‘running man’ statue will be illuminated with multi-colored lights to add a dynamic visual element for the fans attending the tournament.
In addition to the statue, the renovation of Gaddafi Stadium is nearing completion with several other improvements underway. A new road is being constructed to link the main building to the stadium, while two state-of-the-art screens have been installed, offering enhanced viewing experiences for spectators.
A dazzling light show is also being prepared to entertain fans during the Champions Trophy. Currently, the stadium’s newly installed LED floodlights are being tested across all six towers. Waste from the renovation process will be cleared within the next few days, ensuring that everything is in place before the tournament begins.
Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is set to host several thrilling matches during the Champions Trophy 2025, including the second semi-final on March 5. If India fails to qualify for the final, the stadium may also host the championship match on March 9.
