The National Stadium Karachi is set to be inaugurated tomorrow evening with a grand ceremony featuring fireworks and a dazzling light show. The event will be open to the public for free.

The reconstruction project, which began on September 28, 2024, was completed on January 31, 2025. According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, major upgrades include:

  • Complete demolition and rebuilding of the pavilion building.
  • New seating installed in all enclosures.

  • Advanced LED floodlights and modern score screens for an enhanced viewing experience.
  • Removal of fences to provide better spectator visibility.
  • Renovation of hospitality boxes for improved comfort.

Naqvi praised the labourers, FWO, Nespak, contractors, and the PCB team for their dedication in completing the project on time.

The upgrades are part of Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, ensuring top-class facilities for both spectators and players. The tournament will be held from February 19 to March 9, with matches in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

In a post on X, Naqvi announced that Ali Zafar, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and Sahir Ali Bagga will perform at the inauguration ceremony, adding to the excitement.

Recently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Gaddafi Stadium Lahore after similar renovations. Gaddafi Stadium will host its first Champions Trophy match on February 22, featuring a highly anticipated clash between England and Australia.

Meanwhile, the tri-nation series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa is also being hosted at the renovated Karachi and Lahore stadiums, running from February 8 to 14.

Pakistan is set to host 10 matches of the Champions Trophy, with four matches in Dubai, including all of India’s group-stage games and the first semi-final. If India qualifies for the final, it will also be played in Dubai instead of Lahore.
