Atiq-uz-Zaman appointed as head coach of Germany

The Deutsche Cricket Board (DCB) announced on Monday that former Pakistani test cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman has been named the team’s head coach.

The German team’s coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup qualifiers will be Atiq.

“We are thrilled to welcome Atiq-uz-Zaman to the men’s national team coaching staff. The national team is now gearing up for Scotland’s ICC World Cup Qualifiers this summer. There will be a contest for the top two spots, winning you a spot in the T20 World Championship in 2024, “said the DCB in a statement.

The statement said, “His involvement in top cricket as a coach and player will be a benefit to our players and coaching staff and will enable us to advance our current national and under-19 squads as well as the overall talent development in German cricket.

Atiq has played for Pakistan in three ODIs and one Test, it should be noted. The former batter and wicket-keeper, though, now works as a coach.

He is working toward his Level 4 certificate while simultaneously serving as a batting scout for the men’s national teams of England and the England Lions.

In addition, he has held the positions of Head of Fielding and Wicket-keeping Coach at the Lahore High-Performance Centre of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

As part of the elite high performance process, the DCB stated that Atiq’s “participation would focus on the strategic planning, implementation, and management of development initiatives.”
