Bangladesh booked a dominant 78-run victory over Pakistan in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, securing a 2–0 clean sweep in the series.
Chasing a challenging target of 437, Pakistan were dismissed for 358 on the fifth day despite a fighting effort from the middle order. Mohammad Rizwan was the standout performer with a fluent 94 off 166 balls, striking 10 boundaries before falling short of a well-deserved century.
Salman Ali Agha added a valuable 71, while Shan Masood (71) and Babar Azam (47) also contributed, but none of the batters could convert their starts into a match-defining innings.
Pakistan’s innings saw brief resistance through key partnerships, including a crucial 134-run stand between Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha that temporarily revived hopes of a successful chase. However, consistent breakthroughs from Bangladesh’s bowling attack ensured the visitors never fully regained control.
Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers producing a match-winning spell with six wickets, breaking key partnerships and dismantling Pakistan’s lower order at vital moments. Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana also played supporting roles by striking at regular intervals to maintain pressure.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan had shown moments of recovery after early setbacks, but Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling and timely wickets repeatedly shifted momentum in the hosts’ favour.
In the end, Pakistan were bowled out for 358, handing Bangladesh a comprehensive victory and a well-earned series sweep on home soil.
