Imad Wasim, the in-form all-rounder, is looking forward to playing for approximately five more years after guiding his team, Islamabad United, to victory in the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Monday in Karachi.

Islamabad secured their third PSL championship, defeating Multan Sultans by two wickets in the final. They had previously won in 2016 and 2018, making them the most successful team in the history of the tournament.

“I wasn’t feeling it will be my best event tournament but wanted to make an impact but glad it went so well for me,” Imad expressed post-match.

“I’ve done it on quite a few occasion in batting but to pick fifer in a final and to stay in during a crucial game, it was a new experience but I have learned from it that we should have finished the game earlier rather than taking it down the wire, glad Hunain finished it.

“I think I’m happy playing cricket, I’m fit and trying to contribute as much as possible. I’ve four-five years of cricket left in me.”

The nail-biting match was decided on the last ball when Hunain Shah stepped up to bat with just one run needed off the final ball. The young player cleverly found a gap at point and struck the ball for four.

Earlier, after choosing to bat first upon winning the toss, the Sultans posted a score of 159-9 in their 20 overs. Usman Khan’s 57 off 40 balls and captain Mohammad Rizwan’s 26 were the highlights for the Sultans.

However, the Sultans lost five wickets for a mere 13 runs and their score plummeted to 127-9.

Imad was the star of the show with figures of 5-23, while Naseem took 3-32.

Iftikhar Ahmed’s whirlwind unbeaten 32 off 20 balls, which included three sixes and as many fours, added 31 in the last two overs, bringing Multan back into the game.

United also stumbled as their score fell from 121-4 to 129-7, but Wasim kept his cool, scoring a 17-ball 19 with the tail-enders to help them cross the finish line.

For the victorious team, Martin Guptill was the top scorer with a 50 off 32 balls, which included three sixes and four boundaries. Azam Khan contributed a quickfire 30 off 22 balls, hitting a six and four boundaries.
