Shadab Khan, the captain of Islamabad United and a renowned all-rounder for Pakistan, underscored the significance of Imad Wasim’s return to the national team, noting his invaluable contributions to the squad.

In a post-match press conference, Shadab disclosed that he had personally implored Imad not to retire from international cricket. He also expressed hope that Imad might reconsider his decision, particularly with the T20 World Cup just around the corner.

“I want to, in fact, when Imad made the decision, I had also talked to him that I didn’t want him to leave. Because Pakistan needs players like him. God willing, if there is a discussion with him, hopefully he will come back because the World Cup is approaching and the way he is performing and his experience in CPL, Pakistan definitely needs him,” Shadab conveyed.

Imad, who last played for Pakistan in May 2023, announced his retirement from international cricket in November of the previous year. However, his outstanding performance in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 has sparked conversations about his potential comeback to the national team.

It’s noteworthy that Imad’s crucial role in United’s recent triumph in the PSL 9 eliminator against Peshawar Zalmi further demonstrated his capabilities on the field. Alongside Haider Ali, Imad engineered a record-setting seventh-wicket partnership that catapulted Islamabad United into the tournament final. His unbeaten score of 59 runs off 40 balls, adorned with nine boundaries, highlighted his talent and resolve.
