Dalton Smith unleashed a masterclass of precision and power, stopping Subriel Matias in the fifth round to seize the WBC super lightweight world title at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
The unbeaten Briton (19-0, 14 KOs) stormed onto the global stage with authority, toppling the reigning champion and cementing his status as a rising force in world boxing.
Subriel Matias started aggressively, landing punishing uppercuts and relentless combinations, but Smith weathered the storm, turning the tide with ruthless efficiency. By the fifth round, the Brit’s devastating punches left Matias motionless, marking the first knockout defeat of his career and dropping his record to 23-3.
“It was my first fight as the underdog,” Smith declared. “But when you face a monster, you awaken the monster within. I’m world champion now, and I’m here to dominate.”
Before this historic triumph, Smith had already conquered domestic and continental boxing, holding British, Commonwealth, and European titles. This victory, however, elevates him to elite global status.
Smith now joins a prestigious cohort of British male world champions, including Fabio Wardley, Lewis Crocker, Jazza Dickens, and Nick Ball, reinforcing the UK’s explosive presence on the international boxing stage.
