Former Pakistani Umpire Khizr Hayat passes away at 86

Lahore: Former Pakistani international cricket umpire Khizr Hayat has passed away in Lahore at the age of 86, according to family sources. He had been unwell for some time.

Khizr Hayat also played first-class cricket for Pakistan Railways before turning to umpiring in the 1970s. He officiated in numerous domestic, Test, and One Day International (ODI) matches during his illustrious career.

Over the course of his career, he supervised 34 Test matches and 57 ODIs, and also officiated in three Cricket World Cup matches. After retiring from umpiring, Khizr Hayat remained associated with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), contributing to the development of cricket in the country.

The Pakistan Cricket Board expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the veteran umpire. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, in his condolence statement, paid tribute to Khizr Hayat’s invaluable services to umpiring.

“Khizr Hayat was highly respected for his fair and precise decisions on the field. Cricket umpiring will always remain indebted to him, and his contributions to the sport will be remembered forever,” said Naqvi.
