Portugal lift U-17 World Cup after high-intensity final

Portugal created history by lifting the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025 trophy for the first time after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Austria in a gripping final that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The title clash was played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, where Anísio Cabral broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a clinical finish.

Austria launched wave after wave of attacks throughout the match but failed to convert their dominance into an equaliser as Portugal’s defence stood tall under pressure.

Both sides were appearing in a U-17 World Cup final for the first time. Austria’s star striker Johannes Moser, the tournament’s leading scorer with eight goals, was kept quiet on the night.

Substitute Daniel Frischer nearly turned the match around in the dying moments, but his 85th-minute shot from a tight angle struck the post and bounced away.

Cabral ended the tournament with seven goals, finishing as the second-highest scorer and emerging as one of the standout performers of the competition.

In the third-place playoff, Italy defeated Brazil 4–2 on penalties. Earlier in the semifinals, Austria had beaten Italy 2–0, while Portugal knocked out Brazil in a dramatic 6–5 penalty shootout.
