In a rare and inspiring display of family unity and athleticism, three members of the same household showcased their strength at the National Games Weightlifting competition.

The phrase “family, including husband, wife, and children” often heard in everyday conversations, became a living reality at this event as a family of three participated in the National Games Weightlifting competitions, each representing different departments.

Among them was 15-year-old weightlifter Madiha Zubair, a 9th-grade student from Lahore. Madiha competed in the Women’s 86kg weight category representing Pakistan Railways, where she lifted a total of 129kg and earned a silver medal.

Her competition was with none other than her mother, Zahira Zubair, who represented the Army. Zahira lifted 108kg but unfortunately missed out on a medal.

Despite not winning a medal herself, Zahira expressed immense joy that her daughter Madiha brought home the silver. She shared that balancing the role of a mother while competing was a unique and enriching experience.

Madiha reflected on growing up in a weightlifting environment, with her grandfather, father, and mother all being accomplished weightlifters.

She said, “I’m happy to win a medal at the National Games, but I aspire to represent Pakistan in the Olympics, just like my grandfather, Olympian Muhammad Manzoor.”

Madiha’s father, Zubair Manzoor, is also an international weightlifter and represented Pakistan Police in the National Games.

He expressed immense pride in his wife’s and daughter’s achievements, saying, “My wish is for every member of my family to represent Pakistan at the highest level.”

Zubair’s family legacy in weightlifting is even more impressive. His father, Muhammad Manzoor, represented Pakistan at the 1976 Olympics, while his siblings, Zohaib and Saima, are also weightlifters who are participating in different weight categories at the National Games.

This family’s remarkable contributions to the sport of weightlifting not only highlight their dedication to the sport but also their continued legacy of strength and excellence in national and international competitions.
