Social media platform Facebook has decided to remove pro-soleimani content.

All the content that is posted to support Iranian Commander Qassem Soleimani will be eliminated from Facebook.

The decision has been taken in compliance with the US sanctions that are imposed on the Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Tensions and chaos have been increased in Pakistan after Soleimani’s assassination and people are posting content both in support and against of US-Iran conflict.

A Facebook spokesperson reported to an international news agency, “We operate under US sanctions laws, including those related to the US government’s designation of the IRGC and its leadership,”

It should be remembered that the US had declared IRGC a terror group last year in April.

Facebook had blocked the accounts of several Iranian generals. Facebook had also blocked the Instagram account of Qassem Soleimani.

Note that social media platforms are banned in Iran except for Instagram. People use these social media forums through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

Iran’s government spokesperson Ali Rabiei had declared the activity as undemocratic. He said, “The stick behind the democracy and media freedom is displayed in the nick of time,”

He said in a tweet, “In an undemocratic and unashamed action, Instagram has blocked an innocence nations’ voice protesting to the assassination of General Soleimani, while the real terrorists have been given an open voice,”
