Pakistan has achieved a Tier One ranking in the global cybersecurity index, according to Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Minister of State for IT and Telecom.

Speaking at the HBL-PASHA ICT Awards ceremony in Islamabad, Khawaja highlighted the remarkable 27% year-on-year growth in the country’s IT exports, which have reached a record $3.22 billion. She credited the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) for its significant role in promoting IT exports and fostering industry growth.

The awards ceremony celebrated companies that have made substantial contributions to Pakistan’s IT sector, showcasing the industry’s achievements despite facing numerous challenges.

“Recent weeks have brought positive news for our IT sector. Pakistan has achieved Tier One status in the global cybersecurity rankings, and our EGDI index standing has improved from mid-tier to high-tier,” Khawaja stated. She emphasised the importance of legislative support and the critical role PASHA has played in driving this progress.

Khawaja also highlighted Punjab’s early adoption of digitisation initiatives and the prime minister’s vision to implement similar systems at the federal level. “Punjab has led the way in e-governance with electronic land records and an e-complaint system. The federal government is committed to following suit,” she said.

P@SHA Chairman Zohaib Khan thanked the government for its support, especially from the Ministry of IT and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). He noted the increase in job opportunities and export success thanks to the association’s efforts. “We aim to promote ‘Made in Pakistan’ on a global scale, and these awards are a testament to our industry’s dedication,” Khan said, congratulating the award recipients.

Khawaja emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting the IT sector with strong policies that promote innovation and competition in the industry.
