Islamabad: In an effort to enhance accessibility and streamline identity verification, NADRA has introduced a new biometric facial recognition service through its Pak ID Mobile App.
This service provides an alternative to traditional fingerprint verification, especially benefiting senior citizens and individuals with medical conditions who face challenges with fingerprint-based authentication.
The new feature is designed to make the verification process more inclusive, efficient, and secure, offering a simpler method for those who struggle with traditional fingerprint scanning.
Key Details:
-
Effective Date: From January 20, 2026, NADRA centers nationwide will start issuing biometric verification certificates using facial recognition.
-
Verification Process: If fingerprint verification is not possible, citizens can visit any NADRA registration center to complete facial recognition verification. A certificate will then be issued.
-
Certificate Features: The certificate will contain the individual’s photo, ID card number, unique tracking ID, and a QR code, and will remain valid for seven days.
-
Accessibility: The service will be available for a nominal fee, making it widely accessible to the public.
This new service is part of NADRA’s broader efforts to enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, offering citizens an easier and more secure way to manage their identity verification.
The Pak ID Mobile App will allow users to complete the process directly from their smartphones, providing a convenient solution for those seeking identification.
The introduction of facial recognition technology represents a significant advancement in Pakistan’s digital services, improving access to public services for a wider range of citizens, particularly those with physical limitations.
By eliminating the barriers posed by fingerprint verification, this service makes it easier for more people to access essential services and strengthens security and accuracy.
Starting January 20, citizens can address any issues related to the service by lodging complaints with the relevant authorities.
NADRA has ensured that they are fully prepared for a smooth rollout and has collaborated with both government and private institutions to implement the new system effectively. In the future, the Digital ID system will also integrate with this service, further enhancing its functionality.
With this initiative, NADRA continues to set the standard for digital transformation in Pakistan, making identity verification more accessible and efficient for everyone.
