WhatsApp is testing a new feature called chat history, which will let new group members read messages that were sent before they joined. This will help newcomers understand what’s happening in the group right away.
Members will also be able to share up to a week’s worth of old messages with new participants, although group admins will control this option in the settings.
Right now, only a limited number of users can try this feature, and it currently shows messages from the past 24 hours. This time frame may change before it becomes available to everyone. To avoid heavy data use, Meta may set a limit of around 1,000 messages. Overall, the goal is to make group chats easier to follow and more welcoming for new members.

WhatsApp has also updated its status-sharing layout, making it clearer and quicker for users to see updates without opening extra menus. Despite these new features, WhatsApp says security remains a top priority, with all chats protected by end-to-end encryption.
Another new security mode, available to some beta testers, automatically blocks media from unknown contacts, silences calls from strangers, limits group invites, and requires two-step verification for added protection.
