Before being recognized as a Cuban tree frog, a mysterious creature that kept setting off a Florida man’s home security camera was misidentified as a human hand and an octopus.

Dean Gordon claims that at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, he was sound sleeping at his Lehigh Acres residence when he got a notification from his home security camera.

Gordon claimed to have reviewed the video from his phone’s camera and was unsure of what he had been witnessing in the backyard.

Gordon told the reporter, “I thought it was a human hand and I was like, ‘Hold on. Let me watch it again,'” added, “Then I said, ‘That looks like an octopus.'”

A second alarm, he claimed, came from the doorbell camera in front of his house and provided a somewhat clearer view.

“The second video was from around front,” Gordon said. “That’s when he stopped and I saw the leg and I think the eye. You could see the frog’s legs, big eye.”

Gordon asked his neighbors to help identify the creature after uploading his video to Facebook.

The creature, according to the locals, resembles a Cuban tree frog, an invasive species known to inhabit the region. Other commentators said they had observed the amphibians scaling their own cameras.
