Beloved Hollywood actor Dick Van Dyke, famous for movies like Mary Poppins and Night at the Museum, is turning 98 this month. To celebrate, CBS is airing a special called “Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years Of Magic” on December 21 at 9 p.m. ET.

Throughout his long career, Dick has charmed audiences with his humor and smile. Beyond his fans, his wife Arlene Silver has been by his side for almost 20 years.

Dick and Arlene’s love story began in 2006 at the SAG Awards ceremony. Arlene, a makeup artist at the time, met Dick, who was attending as a guest. Although introduced, Arlene didn’t initially realize she was talking to the famous Dick Van Dyke.

“I knew him, I just didn’t know how I knew him,” she said in 2012. “I like that I knew him as a man before I knew him as a performer.”Even though Arlene wasn’t familiar with Dick’s work, and they had a big age difference of 46 years, they got along well and started working together.

At first, the couple, who are now married, had a professional relationship. Dick was in a long-term relationship with Michelle Triola for over three decades. He was previously married to Margerie Willett for almost four decades until their divorce in 1984. However, when Michelle passed away from cancer in 2009, Arlene became a supportive figure for Dick as he mourned the loss of his partner.

“Arlene would come by after work and bring me food,” he said. “She was such a support, I fell in love.”

After being together for two years, Arlene moved in with Dick at his Malibu home in 2011. They had a small wedding on February 29, 2012. The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that the bride chose to be unique by wearing a fuchsia wedding gown instead of following the traditional style.

Bob Palmer, told about the marriage, he emphasized that Arlene’s presence was a significant factor in Dick’s happiness. “It’s a really nice relationship, most people like [Arlene] a lot,” he said at the time. “Despite their obvious age difference, Dick has never been happier. She brings a lot of light into his life.”

For 11 years of marriage, Dick and Arlene have enjoyed being in the public eye, often attending Hollywood events together. Arlene supported Dick at the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors, and she was there for him during his appearance in the movie Mary Poppins Returns in 2018. They both love singing, as seen when Dick sang Frank Sinatra’s “When You’re Smiling” on The Masked Singer season 9, a song suggested by Arlene.

“We share an attitude,” he said in March 2022. “She can go with the flow. She loves to sing and dance, which we do almost every day. She’s just delightful.”
