Lizzy Caplan and Tom Riley got married in 2017. They first met in London in 2015 while Lizzy was filming Allied. In the early days of their relationship, Tom, trying to be quirky, gargled mouthwash at Lizzy’s Los Angeles home and accidentally got a cactus needle in his eye.

Riley spent his early years in a town called Maidstone in Kent, England, according to his website. He started acting at just 4 years old and loved writing and directing plays during his school days.

When it was time for college, Riley went to Birmingham University. There, he studied English literature and drama, created a theater company named Article 19, and even had his own radio show. After graduating in 2002, he continued his studies with a three-year acting course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Caplan and Riley first met in London during the filming of the war drama Allied in 2015. They made their relationship public at the Prague Opera Ball in February 2016 and got engaged just three months later.

Riley is a multi-talented individual known for acting, directing, and producing. He gained fame for portraying Leonardo da Vinci in the Starz show Da Vinci’s Demons, playing Charlie in Ill Behaviour, DI Will Wagstaffe in ITV’s Dark Heart, and Claude Sabine in Amazon UK’s The Collection. He’s also been seen in the Netflix series The Woman In The House… and HBO’s The Nevers.

During one of Riley’s early dates with Caplan, he tried to make a good impression by ensuring he had fresh breath. Unfortunately, things took a turn when he accidentally injured himself. Recalling the incident in a 2018 interview, Riley shared that he had parked outside her house in L.A. and, wanting clean breath, used Listerine from his glove box. However, things went awry, leading to a mishap on the roadside.

During the Labor Day weekend in 2017, the couple got married in Ravello, a town on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. According to the local newspaper Il Vescovado, fellow actors Octavia Spencer, Lily Collins, Dianna Agron, James Marsden, Chris Hemsworth, and Dave Franco all attended the wedding. Celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati was also present to celebrate the occasion.

The pair frequently back each other up at industry gatherings. Caplan was there for Riley’s Starfish premiere in 2016, and she joined him at the premieres for Allied and his Hulu series, Castle Rock. They also shared the joy of her show, Fleishman Is in Trouble, at Carnegie Hall in November 2022.
