Islamabad: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a widespread cold and dry weather system is set to dominate most parts of the country today, reinforcing winter’s firm hold across the region.

The department has predicted that a strong continental air mass will keep conditions predominantly dry, while temperatures are expected to dip sharply, particularly during early morning and nighttime hours.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, skies are likely to remain partly cloudy, with isolated chances of light rain and light snowfall. These conditions may intensify the already freezing atmosphere in the mountainous belt.

Likewise, Kashmir is expected to experience cold and partly cloudy weather, with severe cold gripping the region during the late night and early morning hours.

Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts will remain cold and dry. However, upper districts are forecast to face piercing nighttime chill, while northern areas may witness partly cloudy skies. Light rain and snowfall are also possible in Chitral, Dir, Swat, and adjoining localities.

In the federal capital Islamabad and surrounding areas, dry weather will prevail, accompanied by crisp mornings and cold nights. The PMD has also warned of strong daytime winds, which could further amplify the wintry feel.

Most districts of Punjab are expected to remain dry, with cold conditions persisting during morning and nighttime hours. Murree, Galliyat, and nearby regions will stay cold and dry, while central and southern districts may experience gusty winds during the day.

Meanwhile, Balochistan is likely to see dry weather in most districts, with partly cloudy skies in some areas. Northern parts of the province may endure sharp temperature drops at night and dawn.

The overall forecast signals a sustained cold wave pattern across the country, with northern and elevated regions bearing the brunt of the chilling conditions. Authorities have advised citizens to take precautionary measures against the intensifying cold.
