Palestinian militants retaliate after Israeli airstrike kills commander
According to sources, Israeli bombings and airstrike have killed at least 12 persons, including a prominent member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
On Friday, a bomb was reported in Gaza City, and smoke was visible emerging from the seventh level of a big structure.
According to the PIJ, it retaliated by launching over 100 rockets against Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv.
TV stations seemed to show a number of missiles being shot down by air defence systems, with no reports of deaths.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said that 84 individuals were injured, including a top Islamic Jihad leader, a 23-year-old woman, and a five-year-old daughter.
The walkout comes amid days of unrest after the arrest of a top militant in the occupied West Bank on Monday.
In preparation for retribution, Israel restricted highways surrounding Gaza earlier this week and dispatched forces to the border.
“The IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) is currently striking in the Gaza Strip. A special situation has been declared on the Israeli home front,” The Israeli military announced in a statement.
According to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the official slain was Tayseer al Jaabari.
According to the IDF, he was “responsible for multiple terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians” and had posted a photo of himself on social media.
According to Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum, “the Israeli enemy, who started the escalation against Gaza and committed a new crime, must pay the price and bear full responsibility for it”.
In a message aired on Al Mayadeen television, a pro-Iranian Lebanese station, Islamic Jihad commander Ziad al Nakhala pledged revenge for the attacks.
“There are no red lines in this battle and Tel Aviv will fall under the rockets of resistance, as well as all Israeli cities,” he stated.
