Police say a shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, killed seven people, including the perpetrator.
Chesapeake Police confirm 7 deaths, including the shooter, following last night’s Walmart incident on Sam’s Circle.
Chesapeake police responded to reports of a shooting in Walmart at 10:12pm local time (03:12 GMT Wednesday), killing “fewer than 10” individuals, including the suspected gunman.
Leo Kosinski, a spokesman, wouldn’t say. The unidentified shooter may have killed himself. The shooter is a store manager, according to media reports.
According to Kosinski, no shots were fired at the police.
He stated that officers and detectives were protecting the store.
“We’ve only been responding for a few hours,” Chesapeake said. Multiple deaths, injuries, and the shooter are known.
Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, said it was “shocked” by the shooting.
“We’re praying for victims, the community, and our employees.”
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, which has the area’s premier trauma center, is treating five patients.
The police department didn’t immediately reply to Reuters.
Virginia state Senator Louise Lucas said she was “heartbroken” by the shooting in her district and “will not rest until we solve this gun violence scourge in our country.”
