Russian airstrikes on Kherson, a city in southern Ukraine, are reported to have resulted in at least seven fatalities and numerous injuries.

The blasts caused damage to residential and office buildings in the city’s central districts.

There are no military facilities nearby, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Ukraine freed Kherson, the sole regional capital taken by Russia during the invasion, last month.

Since then, it has regularly come under fire from Russian forces stationed across the Dnipro River.

Videos from the attack’s aftermath show a number of bodies lying on the ground, cars on fire, and damaged structures.

The invasion started exactly 10 months ago, so this is timely.

Mr Zelenskyy wrote in his Telegram channel: “Social networks will most likely mark these photos as ‘sensitive content’. But this is not sensitive content – it is the real life of Ukraine and Ukrainians.”

He described the attacks as “killing for the sake of intimidation and pleasure”.

Russia has consistently denied that any of its attacks have a civilian target.
