According to two senior US officials, there has been a “substantive” change in the kind of weapons that the US and its allies are giving to Ukraine in order to satisfy Kyiv’s requests for firepower.

According to one of the officials, the US’s most recent aid announcement included more offensive weapons, such as Bradley Fighting Vehicles and sophisticated long-range rocket systems, reflecting the nature of the battlefield in Eastern Ukraine and a belief that Ukraine sees a window to regain territory before Russia regroups,

According to a US official, Ukraine has complied with restrictions on the use of the weapons the West has delivered so far, which eases concerns about providing more potent systems.

US officials made clear that US actions are meant to support the Ukrainians’ development and implementation of their own strategy as well as to address their demands on the battlefield.

“We feel we are addressing the requirement and are in close contact with Ukraine about what it needs to defend itself. Our help changes as the situation does, according to NSC spokesman Adrienne Watson, who talked to the news.

The US said last week that it will give Bradleys, which a top Pentagon official claimed were intended to improve Ukraine’s offensive fighting capabilities. This was the greatest military aid declaration since the war started.

Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for the Pentagon, added last week that Bradley armored vehicles, which can be fitted with TOW anti-tank guided missiles and can transport troops into battle, will offer “a level of firepower and armor that will bring advantages on the battlefield as Ukraine continues to defend their homeland.”
