It is “too early” to talk Russian President Vladimir Putin running for president in the 2024 election, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“The president has not made any statements in this regard,” Peskov told reporters Monday when asked whether Putin was seeking to run in the next election.

“Work continues as part of the president’s regular routine schedule,” he added.

Asked if the Kremlin has already started preparing for the campaign, Peskov said it is “too early” to talk about it as the Kremlin has “a lot of current affairs.”

Putin has “a very active schedule and a busy agenda,” he added.

Putin has been in office since 1999, when he was first named prime minister, and is presently completing his fourth term as president. Later, after Boris Yeltsin resigned, he was appointed acting president.

Putin ratified constitutional modifications in 2021, making it possible for him to run for two additional six-year terms after his current term as president expires in 2024.
