Pavlo Kyrylenko, commander of the military administration for the Donetsk region, has declared that the Ukrainian military still holds the town of Soledar.

Although several Ukrainian battalions in the area have stated they are merely on the outskirts of the town.

Speaking on Ukrainian television, Kyrylenko said that: “The enemy is suffering heavy losses, covering its way with the bodies of Wagner [fighters] and regular army soldiers.”

He added that “the situation is difficult but controlled. The military command is taking all necessary measures to stabilize the situation.”

Seven individuals, according to Kyrylenko, were evacuated from the town on Friday, but 550 people still remained there despite its lack of power and few intact buildings.

Kyrylenko insisted that “the humanitarian situation in the city is under control. There is a food supply and shelters for local residents.”

In what would be Moscow’s first significant triumph in months, Russia claimed Friday that its forces had conquered the small town of Soledar in eastern Ukraine after weeks of tough combat. Ukraine, however, refuted the Russian assertion.

Numerous Soledar citizens, according to Russian media on Friday, have departed for Russian-controlled areas of Donetsk.

After a protracted series of military failures dating back to last summer, the conquest of Soledar would represent for Putin a symbolic victory, if not a particularly significant strategic one.

However, it does not imply a large surrender of Ukrainian forces or a significant shift in the nature of the conflict as a whole.
