China coal mine collapsed kills at least two
A mine collapsed in northern China, causing at least two fatalities and more than 50 missing.
Following the collapse at approximately 17:13 local time (09:13 GMT) on Wednesday, President Xi Jinping has mandated a search and rescue operation.
According to state news agency , more than 200 rescuers have been sent to the location, and only one person has so far been brought out alive.
Alxa League, in China’s Inner Mongolia, is where the mine is situated.
A fall was said to have happened in a shaft run by the Xinjing Coal Mining Company, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
China‘s leading producers of coal are found in Inner Mongolia.
As a result of lax enforcement of industrial safety laws, mining accidents are not uncommon in China. 23 laborers lost their lives in a coal mine’s carbon monoxide leak in December 2020.
Moreover, a gold mine explosion in Shandong province in January 2021 resulted in the deaths of 10 miners.
