Joe Biden announces half-billion dollars to support Ukraine
President Joe Biden made a surprise trip to Ukraine and promised an additional $500 million in aid for that country.
In statements made in tandem with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, Biden stated that the package would include more military hardware, such as artillery ammunition, additional javelins, and howitzers.
Zelenskyy said he and Biden spoke about “long range weapons and the weapons that may still be supplied to Ukraine even though it wasn’t supplied before.”
As the battle approaches its second year, Biden discussed the tenacity of the Ukrainian resistance in his speech.
One year later, Kyiv stands. And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands,” Biden said.
On Monday, Biden met with Zelenskyy and the first lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, at the presidential palace in Kyiv.
Just a few days would pass before the nation was invaded by Russia one year ago, prompting the historic visit.
Announcing additional penalties against Russia, Biden declares that Putin “was dead wrong.”
According to US President Joseph Biden, he made the historic journey to Kyiv to reaffirm the US’ “unwavering” support for Ukraine.
He also announced new military aid and a new round of sanctions.
“As the world prepares to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, I am in Kyiv today to meet with President Zelenskyy and reaffirm our unwavering and unflagging commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House.
“When Putin launched his invasion nearly one year ago, he thought Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. He thought he could outlast us. But he was dead wrong,” Biden said.
The President announced that his administration would later this week “issue new sanctions against elites and companies that are trying to escape or backfill Russia’s war machine.”
He also acknowledged that another donation of American military hardware had been made.
Later this week, while he commemorates the anniversary of Russia’s invasion, Biden is scheduled to travel to Poland.
