Four Americans missing after being held hostage in Matamoros
The FBI is searching for four Americans who went missing after being attacked and taken hostage on Friday after crossing into northeastern Mexico.
According to a press release from the FBI in San Antonio, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the US citizens as they entered the Mexican border city of Matamoros shortly after driving there on Friday.
The agency failed to release the victims’ names.
“All four Americans were placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men,” the release said.
According to the FBI, the American individuals were using a white minivan with North Carolina license plates.
In order to find the Americans and identify those involved for the kidnapping, the FBI is asking for the public’s assistance.
The organisation declared a $50,000 reward for the victims’ safe return and the capture of those responsible.
According to the FBI, the kidnapping is being investigated in conjunction with other federal partners as well as Mexican law enforcement organizations.
Call the FBI San Antonio Division or leave a tip online if you have any information about the incident.
The US State Department has issued a “Level 4: Do Not Go” recommendation for American residents for the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, where Matamoros is situated, citing crime and kidnapping.
