Afghan authorities renovate southern power plant - Google

The authorities in Afghanistan’s southern region rebuilt the only power plant at the Kajaki dam in Helmand province and connected it to adjacent Kandahar province on Wednesday.

The transmission line was connected to the grid of Kandahar provincial capital, Kandahar City, during a ceremony attended by Hajji Mohammad Yusuf Wafa, among others.

Governor Wafa announced on the occasion that the capacity of the Kajaki power plant would be raised from 50 to 100 megawatts.

The war-ravaged To meet its internal needs, Afghanistan imports electricity from neighbouring Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.

The government, which is run by the Taliban, has promised to improve the country’s power supply by updating and building new power plants.
