Beijing / Caracas: China has reiterated that its commitment to promoting cooperation in Venezuela remains unchanged, despite recent political developments. Chinese interests in Venezuela, the Foreign Ministry said, will continue to be protected under the law.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the use of force by the United States poses a threat to peace in Latin America. The spokesperson emphasized that all parties should work toward restoring stability and that China opposes the use of force in international relations.
The ministry also condemned any actions violating the sovereignty of another country, calling such acts “bullying” and unacceptable under international law.
On the other hand, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was presented in a Manhattan federal court following his arrest during a U.S. military operation in Venezuela.
Maduro and his wife were transported from Brooklyn to Manhattan by helicopter and then moved to the courthouse in an armored vehicle.
According to US media reports, Maduro faces charges related to drug trafficking and terrorism.
Following his transfer to the United States on Sunday, Maduro was held in a New York jail. Both he and his wife were detained on Saturday during the US operation in Venezuela.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting today to discuss U.S. military operations against Venezuela. Global reactions to the US actions have been swift, with widespread concern over regional stability.
International media reports indicate that U.S. strikes have severely disrupted Venezuela’s oil exports. US President Donald Trump has previously announced that the United States will directly manage Venezuelan affairs until the transfer of power, including taking control of the country’s oil reserves and allowing U.S. oil companies to operate in Venezuela.
