Gaza: Heavy rain and flooding have worsened already dire conditions in Gaza, where Israeli strikes on Sunday killed at least three Palestinians in the south of the enclave, according to medical officials of Gaza.
Staff at the Nasser Medical Complex told to international media that, the casualties occurred after Israeli shelling east of Khan Younis. Additional strikes were also reported in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood and near Rafah in the south.
Although a ceasefire has been declared, international media say Israeli forces are still hitting areas inside the “yellow line” , zones where troops had allegedly pulled back. Residents living near this line say the situation is deteriorating, claiming that the military is demolishing homes and creating fear and chaos as floodwaters sweep through their flimsy temporary shelters.
UNRWA warns that roughly 13,000 families who lost their homes during two years of bombardment are now facing freezing temperatures and rising floodwaters with almost no protection. Many are living in makeshift shelters that do little to shield them from the worsening winter weather.
According to UN estimates, more than 80 percent of Gaza’s buildings and homes have been damaged or destroyed since the conflict began. Despite the ceasefire, aid groups report that Israel continues to block the entry of tents and mobile housing, crippling relief efforts and leaving displaced families in dangerous conditions.
With winter storms becoming more severe, humanitarian organizations say the mix of continued military activity, inadequate shelter, and heavy flooding risks pushing Gaza’s already critical humanitarian situation even closer to catastrophe.
