A Malaysian surgeon-in-training in the Royal Derby Hospital of United Kingdom has developed a disposable surgical headscarf for the female Muslim health workers.

The contribution of Dr. Farah Shaheera Roslan earned appreciation from many, including Malaysian Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Royal Derby Hospital became the first in the United Kingdom to use disposable headscarf.

Dr. Roslan told the media that the product is the result of finding a balance between her passion and the Muslim dress code.

She further added, “I am so happy my vision has become a reality and that these headscarves are now available for all of the staff.”

Miss Tierney, the inventor’s mentor, and the colorectal surgeon told that headscarf is not formally addressed but it still remains a “quiet issue around operating theatres across the country”

Dr. Roslan said the disposable headscarves offer a solution to prevent the concerns regarding infection related to hijabs, which are usually worn during the day.

“I’d been using [the same headscarf] all-day which obviously wasn’t clean and ideal. I didn’t feel comfortable taking it off and I was pulled out from the theatre, respectfully, due to infection control.”

Dr. Roslan has reportedly look for inspiration from her place of origin, Malaysia.

“I’m really happy and looking forward to seeing if we can endorse this nationally,” she added.
