The battle in Ukraine is about to enter a new phase, according to British military intelligence officials this morning.

The Russian military is “almost certainly” massing in the south in preparation for a Ukrainian counter-offensive, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Saturday.

Long convoys of military vehicles, tanks, and towed artillery are travelling southwest out from the Donbas area in eastern Ukraine, according to an intelligence bulletin issued by the Ministry of Defence.

“Russia’s war on Ukraine is about to enter a new phase,” the tweet claimed,  with the heaviest fighting shifting to a roughly 350km frontline stretching southwest from near Zaporizhzhia to Kherson, paralleling the Dnieper River,”

According to the MoD report, battalion tactical units of 800 to 1,000 soldiers have been dispatched to annexed Crimea and are expected to help Russian forces in Kherson.

Equipment is also reported to have been sent into Crimea through the Kerch Bridge from mainland Russia and Moscow-controlled territories such as Melitopol, Berdiansk, and Mariupol.
