Sikhs protest over Indian defense minister’s remarks against Pakistan

Ottawa: Members of Canada’s Sikh community held a strong protest outside the Indian High Commission in Ottawa in response to recent remarks made by India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh about Pakistan.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against the Modi government, accusing New Delhi’s current policies of escalating tensions in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Sikh speakers criticized Rajnath Singh for commenting on Pakistan—particularly the Sindh province—instead of focusing on India’s internal issues. According to the speakers, India is “rapidly moving toward fragmentation.”

During the protest, participants raised slogans in support of Khalistan, asserting that Indian Punjab would eventually separate from India to form an independent “State of Khalistan,” where all communities would enjoy equal rights.

The Sikh community sharply criticized the Indian government’s policies, stating that regional peace requires India to resolve its internal challenges instead of issuing provocative statements against neighboring countries.
