Volodymyr Zelensky accuses European countries are trading blood for Russian oil
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says European countries that still buy Russian oil are “earning their money in people’s blood”
Sources say tht President Zelensky specifically named Germany and Hungary, accusing them of preventing efforts to embargo sales of energy, through which Russia appears to earn to £250bn ($326bn) this year.
A noticeable frustration has been seen between Ukraine’s leadership and Berlin, which has provided support for some sanctions against Russia but still has resisted calls to provide tougher action over oil sales.
“Some of our friends and partners understand that it is a different time now, that it is no longer an issue of business and money,” Mr Zelensky talked to an interview on Thursday. “That it is an issue of survival.”
The president also asked for more weapons to be provided to Ukraine, confirming that they were not having supplies quick enough to wade ofd Russia’s assault.
“The United States, the United Kingdom, some European countries – they are trying to help and are helping,” he told. “But still we need it sooner, sooner and faster. The key word is now.”
Russian arms have recently pulled back from the outskirts of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, as well as other central and northern parts of Ukraine – apparently leaving an attempt to stop all of Ukraine with arm force.
Still fears reside even now against a bloody conflict in the east as well as south of Ukraine, as Russian President Vladimir Putin is sending his military campaign there in an effort to stop more territory.
Mariupol which is a southern port city- that seemed a strategic aim for President Putin – has already been destroyed by consistent weeks of bombardment of Russian artillery.
President Zelensky said he guesses tens of thousands of casualties in the city.
“We also have information that as well as those tens of thousands of dead, many have disappeared,” he hinted.
“We know their documents have been changed, they were provided Russian passports and dragged into Russia – some to camps while others to other cities. No one has an idea to what is happening to said people. No one knows the amount of people killed.”
Mr Zelensky declared the atrocities apparently performed by Russian arms in Mariupol, along with in the Kyiv suburbs region of Bucha and Borodyanka, had tamed down the possibility of peace treaty with the Russians.
Hundreds of dead bodies have been found in Bucha after being retaken by Ukrainian forces not longer than over a week ago, that also include civilians who have headshot wounds with tied back hands. Several indicators of sexual violence has also been found.
“Bucha is near to closing all the possibilities of peace treaty],” President Zelensky said.
“It’s not about me – it’s about Russia. Their chances to speak with us are slimming.”
In his tour to Bucha , he said he went through all kinds of emotions but as the trip ended, there was nothing but hatred left for Russian military.
He used big words such as war criminals for Russian President and its army.
Mr Zelensky was defensive of his leadership throughout the Russian conflict and invasion started in February, when his government asked people to stay calm.
He said he was working side by side with attaining weapons and supplies and closing deals over it while also advising people not to panic so as to prevent the destabilizing of Ukraine’s economy.
“That was what Russia – and not just Russia – wanted, but we didn’t let that happen,” he said. “But we did not expect the full-scale invasion when it happened.”
Ukraine is now experiencing a renewed attack in the south and east as Russia attempts to invade through more territory, followed by 2014 annexation of Crimea.
President Zelensky hinted the east to be seen as “most difficult situation” by Ukraine’s armed forces, “but this is where our many powerful units are concentrated”.
“They can ruin us, but we will answer; they can kill but they will also die,” he said. “I can’t understand for what – I can’t understand why they came.”
