LAHORE: In response to the resignation of Justice Ijazul Ahsan, a senior judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Marriyum Aurangzeb, the spokesperson for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated that his ‘misdeeds’ cannot be rectified merely through resignation.

Following Justice Ijazul Ahsan’s resignation, Marriyum Aurangzeb asserted in a statement that the retired apex court judge would face legal consequences. She questioned the motive behind Justice Mazahir Naqvi’s resignation, emphasizing that if he had not committed any wrongdoing, there would be no reason for his departure, and the public would not forgive him for resigning.

Marriyum Aurangzeb argued that these resignations serve as evidence of the guilt of the individuals involved. According to the PML-N spokesperson, both judges bear responsibility for the economic challenges, including inflation and unemployment, in the country.

She highlighted that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family willingly subjected themselves to accountability, expressing anticipation for a genuine accountability process to commence.

Earlier, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court and slated to become the Chief Justice of Pakistan in October 2024, submitted his resignation.

This move followed the earlier resignation of senior Supreme Court judge Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. Sources indicated that Justice Ijazul Ahsan forwarded his resignation to President Arif Alvi.
