Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, aged 26 and born in 1997, gained attention in 2021 due to a tragic incident on the set of the movie “Rust.” During filming in New Mexico, a prop revolver fired a live round, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injury to director Joel Souza.

Investigations led to Gutierrez-Reed and Alec Baldwin facing involuntary manslaughter charges. Gutierrez-Reed also faced additional tampering charges later. Her trial started on February 22, 2024, with evidence suggesting she may not have followed safety rules properly.

The incident occurred on October 21, 2021, during a rehearsal when a real bullet was accidentally fired from a prop revolver held by Baldwin. Hutchins was fatally hit, and Souza was injured.

The investigation revealed that Gutierrez-Reed and Baldwin were unaware the gun was loaded. Gutierrez-Reed faced charges related to negligent weapon use and tampering with evidence.

She pleaded not guilty to both charges and her trial began in February 2024. Gutierrez-Reed’s upbringing was influenced by her stepfather, Thell Reed, a renowned Hollywood armorer. Despite initial minor roles in the film industry, she gained recognition as an armorer, although concerns about her adherence to safety protocols were raised.
