Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has addressed speculation surrounding a tweet she posted praising Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. The tweet, which lauded Rohit for stepping back from the final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has drawn accusations of being a public relations (PR) move.

Vidya had written, “To take a pause & catch your breath requires courage… More power to you… Respect!!” While many appreciated her sentiment, others questioned the authenticity of the post, labeling it a PR stunt. The debate escalated when X (formerly Twitter) briefly flagged the tweet with a “Community Notes” warning, suggesting it might be an undisclosed sponsored post. The flag was later removed.

Adding fuel to the fire, a Reddit post claimed Vidya shared—and quickly deleted—a screenshot of the tweet, allegedly sent by Rohit Sharma’s PR team.

In response, Vidya’s team clarified that the tweet was entirely her own, inspired by genuine admiration for Rohit’s “selfless act.” The statement emphasized her respect for individuals displaying dignity under pressure, calling the PR allegations “preposterous.”

Meanwhile, actor Farhan Akhtar also expressed support for Rohit, praising his leadership and decision-making. Despite this, users noted that neither Vidya nor Farhan follows Rohit on social media, further igniting skepticism.

Rohit Sharma’s absence from the final Test has sparked discussions about his potential retirement, leaving fans and experts divided.
