Kabul: Bismillah Jan Shinwari, a distinguished Afghan cricket umpire, has tragically passed away at the age of 41 after a prolonged illness.

Throughout his career, Shinwari made significant contributions to Afghan cricket, officiating in 34 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 26 T20 Internationals (T20Is), as well as 31 First-Class, 51 List A, and 96 domestic T20 matches.

His dedication and professionalism earned him respect both nationally and internationally.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced his passing, expressing deep sorrow and offering condolences to his family, friends, and the wider cricket community in Afghanistan.

Shinwari’s journey in international umpiring began with his debut in an ODI match between Ireland and Afghanistan held in Sharjah in December 2017.

Shinwari’s commitment to the game and his contributions as an umpire have left a lasting legacy in Afghan cricket. His loss is deeply mourned by all who knew him and by cricket fans around the world.
