ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a contempt of court notice to members of the federal cabinet for failing to submit a report in the Dr. Aafia Siddiqui case.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq heard the petition regarding Aafia Siddiqui’s release, health, and repatriation.
During the hearing, Justice Ejaz remarked that the judges’ roster at the IHC is managed by the Chief Justice’s office. He further noted that the government has challenged his decision in the Supreme Court, and even if a judge is willing, he cannot work during the court’s recess.
The court expressed serious concern over the lack of progress and non-compliance with previous orders in the high-profile case.
During the hearing of the Aafia Siddiqui case, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq expressed strong dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to submit the required report, stating he will exercise his judicial powers to uphold the dignity of the High Court.
“I had clearly stated that if the report was not submitted, contempt proceedings would be initiated,” said Justice Ishaq. “I am now issuing contempt of court notices to every member of the federal cabinet.”
He directed that the case be scheduled for hearing on the first working day after the court’s summer recess.
