The Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme, which plans to distribute 100,000 free laptops to deserving students across Pakistan, has been postponed due to the ongoing flood crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme said the distribution, which was supposed to start in July 2025, has been delayed to focus on relief efforts in flood-hit areas.
Officials confirmed the event has been pushed back by two weeks as many universities remain closed, and a new date will be announced soon so that eligible students can receive laptops under the government’s plan to promote digital literacy.
The floods have caused severe damage, displacing thousands of families and disrupting essential services. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will finalize the new schedule once conditions improve in KPK, GB, and AJK. Students have been advised to stay updated through official government announcements regarding the revised timeline.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that 100,000 laptops would be given to talented students across the country strictly on merit.
Speaking at an event in Islamabad on International Youth Day, he said the laptops would go only to high-achieving students based on academic performance. He stressed that the government believes in transparency and merit and will ensure both during the distribution.
The initiative will cover all provinces, the federal capital Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, the Prime Minister said Pakistan’s victory on May 10 against a larger and “arrogant” enemy gave new strength to the nation. He urged the youth to carry this spirit forward and strive for excellence to make the country proud.
