New Mutant Covid Strain Discovered In UK Reaches Asia
A new mutant strain of the novel Coronavirus discovered in the UK...
The United Kingdom has approved the general use of the Covid-19 vaccine, developed by Oxford University and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. Britain is the first country in the world to make that decision.
The British Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that the government had approved the use of the Covid-19 vaccine, developed by Oxford University and Australasia, on the recommendation of the Drug and Safety Products Regulatory Agency.
“The vaccine they have developed should also be effective against the spread of a new form of Covid-19,” said Pascal Claude Roland Soriot, chief executive of AstraZeneca.
A new strain of the coronavirus has recently emerged in the UK and South Africa. The government and scientists say it is spreading faster than a virus born in China. As a precautionary measure, many countries around the world have cut off air links with Britain.
AstraZeneca and other pharmaceutical companies that develop vaccines for the coronavirus say they are studying the effects of the new strain and expect their vaccines to be effective against the new form.
British Health Secretary Matthew John David Hancock says the Oxford University and AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine will provide a way to get rid of the coronavirus by next spring, and by then thousands of people will be protected from the deadly virus.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has called the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine a ” fantastic news – and a triumph for British science”.
