KABUL: At least 100 Taliban militants were killed and about 90 others wounded during Afghan government security forces’ separate offensives on Thursday, multiple sources confirmed on Friday.

In western Herat province, 52 Taliban militants were killed and 47 wounded when Afghan security forces backed by local Public Uprising Forces repulsed Taliban’s attacks on the outskirts of provincial capital Herat city and neighbouring Guzara, Karukh and Seyawoshan suburban districts, the local government said in a statement.

The Afghan Air Force A-29 warplanes also conducted multiple airstrikes in support of the ground forces, the statement said.

Besides, 13 Taliban militants were killed and 22 others wounded after the air force struck their position in Herat’s Ghoryan district, Afghan Ministry of Defense said earlier on Friday, adding that seven militants’ vehicles along with weapons and ammunition were destroyed by the air raids.

In southern Helmand province, an air force MD-530 helicopter made a crash landing when helicopter gunships pounded Taliban militants on southern outskirts of provincial capital Lashkar Gah city, the army’s 215th Maiwand Corps said in a statement.
