LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday labelled the Rs2.52 per unit increase in electricity tariff another “heartless and cruel” move of the PTI government.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) reminded the people that he had warned that PTI was doing a “blatant fraud” by introducing the “so-called tax-free budget”. He claimed that his words were being “proven right over and over again” due to the “repeated price hikes in all essential commodities and public utilities”.

The PMLN president said that he had also warned that the economy would not function and the people of Pakistan will not be able to survive if this government remained in power.

“Ending the subsidy on gas for industries will trigger another economic crisis as it would shut down industries and create even more unemployment. This withdrawal of subsidy would also jack up electricity tariffs, which would have a devastating effect on the current inflation and stall national growth. This cannot be allowed to happen,” said the PML-N leader.
