Russian aggression in Ukraine is rapidly escalating and expanding from the battle lines to civilian areas. Infrastructure for Ukraine’s economy and people has been attacked recently.
Russian drones struck tanks of sunflower oil in the coastal city of Mykolaiv earlier this week. Oleksandr Senkevich, the mayor of Mykolaiv, claimed, “Three drones attacked an object of industrial infrastructure in Mykolaiv, where tanks with sunflower oil were burnt.”

The harvest in Ukraine is reportedly being targeted by Russian forces in an effort to destabilize the country’s economy, which is largely dependent on food processing and the export of corn, wheat, and sunflower oil. According to the statistics database of Nation Master, Ukraine is the world’s top producer of sunflower oil.
A video of sunflower oil gathering in Ukrainian streets was tweeted by the news outlet Euromaidan Press, which is maintained by Ukrainian writers. “Sunflower oil spills down the streets of Mykolaiv after Russian drone assault ruins 2 tanks containing 7,500 tons of oil each,” the news portal tweeted alongside the footage.
