ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met a visiting bipartisan US congressional delegation on Tuesday with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-US relations and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, energy and regional security.
The US delegation included Representatives Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the lawmakers, Sharif said their visit marked a positive step toward deepening bilateral ties. He also congratulated the American people on the 250th anniversary of US independence and conveyed his best wishes to President Donald Trump.
During the meeting, the prime minister thanked President Trump for what he described as his “bold and decisive” role in helping secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India following heightened tensions in May 2025, saying the intervention helped prevent further escalation and save millions of lives.
Sharif said Pakistan is keen to expand cooperation with the United States in key sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, information technology, mining, minerals and energy.
The two US lawmakers thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended during their visit. They said President Trump enjoys a strong relationship with Pakistan’s leadership and that the positive engagement is benefiting bilateral ties. They also praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace.

Both sides agreed to increase the frequency of exchanges between congressional and parliamentary delegations to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
